Sunday Sunday Sunday

Another sunny day after a dismal foggy start. After the normal round of Sunday morning ritual of 'what should we do before work tomorrow?' we decided on a trip to the Barrow in Furness area. The sunny weather started to turn into a thick covering of black cloud but the rain/snow/whatever next held off and eventually turned back into sun. We ended up at Holy Trinity Church in the beautiful village of Bardsea on the coast road from Ulverston to Barrow. Another lovely church, of course I took photos! See the gallery pages

Back to work tomorrow so one more film to fit in before food. This bloody diet is gonna kill me.... but it is working......

Lancashire wander

What a fantastic day! The weather was spectacular, quite warm and very sunny... so we managed to get round two local(ish) churches in Lancashire for a wander.

We ended up in Halton (not far from Lancaster city) at St Wilfred's church (rebuilt in 1877), what a place! It still has an original tower built during Norman times with 5ft thick walls, the rest of the church (including the Tudor entrance) was rebuilt in 1877. There are three photos in the tower by the baptism font showing the church over three years; the first from 1875 shows the church as it was, the 1876 photo shows just the tower remaining, and the 1877 shows the church as it is now... well near enough anyway. Thanks to the very kind cleaners who let us wander round while they got ready for a Sunday service. Lancashire people are so nice... no, I ain't one.

We then went to the nearby village of Hornby. Now that is a village! Overlooked by the impressive Hornby Castle, the unique St Margaret's church with it's octagonal apse and tower, and the lovely wide bridge over the Lune... a spectacular place with amazing views.

We ended our trip with a wander along Morecmabe prom... Back home ready for grub, I'm starving!

Weekend

Wheyyeee! It's the weekend again... and I'm not working. Looking forward to a long lay in and then a look around some castles/churches/or whatever turns up on our travels.
I've been driving round South Cumbria today training fellow library staff... great job love it... but love me weekends just as much ;-)
Means I can spend some time with my great partner and our smelly, but lovable, dalmation.

Somerset Trip.... last September

Bloody hell, I just noticed that I haven't updated the website with our trip to Somerset... last September! Now upto date... and including links to some amazing places.... or at least it will be later this eve. While I was sorting out some of the basement stuff at work I came across some Coleridge poetry, it reminded me of that lovely week in Somerset... hmmmm.

Found a great website at work today http://www.cumbria-artefacts.org.uk/
Can't wait to explore some of these places on our days off...
